Supporting Emotional Well-being in Cesarean Birth: How Language and Environment in Surgical Birth Impact Our Clients
A Webinar presented by Courtney D’Avella, Birth Doula and 3x cesarean mama, with Dr. Vanessa Freeman.
Many birth support professionals have a foundational understanding of gentle or family centered cesareans - but have we had the opportunity to deeply consider the “why” behind these types of birth plans? In this presentation, the hosts will explore thoughts and feelings that often arise in people who birth via cesarean. By starting with the consideration of our clients’ difficult feelings of isolation and a challenging relationship with their body and baby, we can utilize language and environment in a way the reduces harm and extends deeper compassion to cesarean parents. This approach will help professionals better support their clients through their birth and postpartum experience, and improve how cesarean birth is regarded in our birth community.
All are welcome to this webinar, but it would be particularly beneficial to birth doulas and other birth support professionals.
This webinar will address:
How can we change the environment and the language we use before, during, and after cesarean births to promote better well-being for our clients?
Are there ways we can reduce harm for clients who were hoping and planning for a low-intervention vaginal birth, but are facing a surgical delivery?
How can we ensure cesarean clients are included in our advocacy work?
